The application of print and digital media
In the 1970s, the channels for spreading the Dharma became increasingly diverse. In 1971, General Ho Shai Lai accepted Venerable Yong Xing’s proposal to dedicate a section of The Kung Sheung Daily News, which he managed, to a special Buddhist studies feature aimed at promoting the Dharma. This initiative continued until it concluded in 1979.
In 1995, General Ho’s son, Mr. Robert H. N. Ho , initiated the establishment of a Buddhist website in Canada, which was later named Buddhistdoor. Today, the administrative and editorial offices for the Chinese website are based in Hong Kong, while the administrative center for Buddhistdoor Global is located in Vancouver, under the management of the Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Canada Society. The editorial team is distributed across continents worldwide.
In 2006, TLKY selected Ming Pao as the platform to launch a publication titled “Ming Kok,” supported by an independent editorial committee. Starting in July of that year, a full page feature was published every Wednesday in the supplement section of Ming Pao. In 2007, the North American edition of Ming Pao began publishing the feature simultaneously with the Hong Kong edition, enabling readers overseas to access “Ming Kok”. By 2009, “Ming Kok” transitioned to a digital format and became part of the Buddhistdoor website, significantly expanding its global outreach.
