The Dharma Drum and Bronze Bell are placed on either side of the Grand Buddha Hall, key ritual instruments in Buddhist monasteries known as the “eyes and ears of the heavenly dragon.” The bell rings at dawn to begin the day, and the drum is struck at night as part of the “Morning Bell, Evening Drum” tradition.
The Dharma Drum features a red-and-black yin-yang design and is mounted on a wooden stand. The Bronze Bell, inscribed with the Great Compassion Mantra (Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Avalokitesvara Dharani Sutra), was donated in 1935 by Sir Robert Ho Tung and Lady Clara Ho Tung, with its crafting overseen by Venerable Ai Ting and Madam Lam Ling Chun.
