In the 1950s, the Board of Directors decided to expand Po Kok School into Po Kok Girls Junior Vocational Secondary School, with a particular emphasis on home economics and business studies. The aim was to provide graduates with the skills needed to establish stable and fulfilling livelihoods. To raise the necessary funds for this expansion, Tung Lin Kok Yuen organised a charity bazaar. Mr. Fung Tsun was invited to design the Lin Kok Memorial Building, which was constructed by Fat Lee Construction Company. The new building replaced the original courtyard and the Stupa, becoming the terminal structure on the central axis while maintaining the architectural style of TLKY. The Lin Kok Memorial Building is a three-story structure. The ground floor houses the Hall of Merits, while the second and third floors serve as faculty and staff quarters. TLKY hosted a celebration to commemorate the completion of the Lin Kok Memorial Building and the 80th memorial anniversary of Madam Cheung Ching Yung. The ceremony was officiated by Sir Robert Ho Tung, who presided over the key unveiling ceremony.
Coinciding with the institution’s 80th anniversary, Medicine Buddha Hall was renovated. The hall enshrines the Medicine Buddha, the Bodhisattvas of Sunlight and Moonlight, as well as the Eight Bodhisattvas, thereby promoting the Medicine Buddha’s Twelve Great Vows. Through this, it seeks to guide individuals toward physical and mental well-being, while encouraging the cultivation of merits and virtues in accordance with the Dharma.
In celebration of Tung Lin Kok Yuen’s 80th anniversary, the Medicine Buddha Hall was completed, and the Medicine Buddha statue was enshrined. Venerable Tsang Chit performed the purification ritual for the Medicine Buddha statue. The statue of the Medicine Buddha in the hall, holding a staff in the right hand and a medicine bowl in the left, is inspired by the Dunhuang murals. It is intricately sculpted based on the text of the “Sutra of the Seven Medicine Buddhas’ Original Vows and Merits,” as translated by Venerable Yi Jing.
