Dharma blooms with Tung Lin, following the virtuous example of Master Huiyuan. Wisdom flourishes at Po Kok, preserving the benevolent spirit of Sage Confucius.
The couplet engraved in blue regular script on a dark brown background. The upper couplet celebrates their founding of Tung Lin Kok Yuen, comparing their dedication to that of Master Hui Yuan, the first patriarch of the Pure Land Buddhism: “Establishing this sacred place with unwavering effort to propagate Buddhism and alleviate worldly suffering.” The inscription, dated mid-spring of the Yihai year of the Republic, is penned at Jiashan Daguan, bearing a white seal stamped “Hui Zheng”.
The lower couplet highlights Lady Clara Ho Tung’s establishment of Po Kok School, commending their integration of Confucian and Buddhist teachings: “Uniting secular and spiritual education, this inscription marks the joyous completion of their noble endeavour.
