般若藏珍 佛教的傳承與傳持展覽

(The Skanda Hall is located behind and connected to the Maitreya Hall, with its Buddha niche directly adjacent. The statue of Skanda Bodhisattva faces the Grand Buddha Hall. In Buddhist tradition, Skanda Bodhisattva is a dharma-protecting guardian responsible for safeguarding three continents: Purvavideha (Eastern Continent), Aparagodaniya (Western Continent), and Jambudvipa (Southern Continent), earning him the title “Protector of the Three Continents.” Skanda Bodhisattva safeguards both the monastic community and lay devotees, standing as a vital guardian of the monastery.

Skanda Bodhisattva, depicted as a warrior in armor holding a vajra staff, symbolizes courage, fearlessness, and the resolve to overcome obstacles, inspiring practitioners in their cultivation. Positioned before him is Kalan Bodhisattva, both serving as key Buddhist protectors, representing internal and external guardianship.

The floor and ceiling of the hall are adorned with intricate decorative elements, blending traditional and modern Buddhist artistry. At each of the hall’s four corners stands a concrete pillar, crowned with ornamental red Chinese-style dougong brackets. The interplay of red and green creates an atmosphere that is both solemn and elegant.

The persimmon calyx pattern serves not only as a visual decoration but also symbolizes the solid foundation of the structure. According to the Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang: “Among all woods, persimmon is regarded as the sturdiest and is commonly known as the ‘persimmon tray’.” The persimmon calyx-patterned floor tiles in the garden feature a “pointed with two curves” design that outlines four petals. Each petal points in a cardinal direction, representing stability at the foundation and peace across all directions.

The tiled fret-pattern border connecting the East and West sections features geometric designs composed of short horizontal and vertical lines, forming square or circular interconnected motifs that resemble the Chinese character “Hui”. This design symbolizes enduring blessings, prosperity, and abundance.
